Final Fantasy XVI is an upcoming fan fictional novel. It is supposedly the sixteenth installment to the Final Fantasy series. Featuring a display of magical action and adventure elements, the novel is scheduled for release in Late 2019.
Development of the novel began in early 2014, when an in development novel known as Shadowplay was confirmed canceled. Similar elements carried over, such as the main protagonist's last name being Asmius. Features of magical elements, such as superpowers, the bestiary, and the characters were also taken into consideration when making Final Fantasy XVI. However, Shadowplay was scrapped entirely when the main protagonist of the novel was criticized for being too perfect as a male character. Thus, he was replaced by June Asmius. The name Merry June Coming was temporarily scrapped as of 3/17/2017, renaming the novel into Final Fantasy XVI.
